Liptov
Location
Liptov is located in the northern part of Slovakia in Liptov basin, which is surrounded by mountains - the North West Tatras (Pavlova Ves) and Choc Mountains, south of the Low Tatras, Fatra from the West and East High Tatras.
Through Liptov basin flows our longest river Vah, on which is built dam Liptovská Mara.
Natural sights
Liptov valley is surrounded on all sides by our highest mountains with beautiful nature. To the south is the National Park of the Low Tatras (NAPANT) and the largest protected area in Slovakia - Demänovská Valley.
From approx. 30 caves - 3 are opened to the public - Demänovská Cave of Freedom, Demänovská Ice Cave and Demänovská Cave of Peace.
From all of the most beautiful valleys of Slovakia- Kvačianska and Prosiecka Valley in Choc mountains are certainly the best of them.
Liptov region has got many of hot and mineral springs, especially in Liptovský Ján, Bešeňová, Žiar, Pribylina, Závažná Poruba, Likavka, and many others.
Holiday
Liptov offers ideal conditions for summer and winter recreation. The surrounding mountains are almost ideal for hiking, climbing, biking and caving.
During the winter are very popular ski resorts with ski slopes, as Demänovská Valley, Jasná, Chopok, Malinô, Jánska and Bocká Valley.
Summer season is mainly associated with swimming and water sports on the dam Liptovská Mara. You can experience summer idyll even during the colder months thanks to Aquapark Tatralandia near Liptovský Mikuláš and Gino Paradise Bešeňová with healing springs. The healing springs are also used in spas Lúčky, Ľubochňa or Korytnica. Less traditional sports such as paragliding, rafting, horseback riding, scenic flights, hunting or fishing are also very popular.
